Essay Types and Their Structure
What are essays? An essay is, in general the written writing which provides the author’s argument. However, typically, the definition is vague, encompassing all of those of an essay, a novel, a newspaper, a brochure, or even a short story. Essays have been categorised as both formal and personal. Essays can be classified into two major categories, those that present a thesis and those which support one. Sometimes, the thesis statement is concealed or hidden within the essay’s body. Expository essays can also be subdivided into two major types: analytical and expository. Analytical essays are written using an idea or topic as the focal point and based on original research. This kind of essay will look at previous works on the topic and highlight the differences from each other. It will also discuss the ways in which these arguments can be used to justify a particular viewpoint. On the other the other hand expository essays are written to offer an argument or a specific response to a particular topic. Expository essays on Shakespeare are written to present an argument or an explicit response to a particular topic.
