community grafana.grafana_team module Manage Grafana Teams Ansible Documentation
All incident updates will be reflected within the initial incident announcement channel, so even if people are using the web UI, their work will be shared in Microsoft Teams. The addition of Microsoft Teams is part of our continued effort to meet our users where they are, especially when they’re putting out fires. Plus, because Grafana OnCall also supports Microsoft Teams, incident and response management just got even easier with a more seamless solution within Grafana Cloud. Grafana Server Administrators are responsible for creating organizations. For more information about the Grafana Server Administrator role, refer to Grafana server administrators. The member of one organization cannot view dashboards assigned to another organization.
By using folders and teams, you avoid having to manage permissions for individual users. You’ll create two folders, Analytics and Application, https://www.globalcloudteam.com/ where each team can add their own dashboards. When you add a user to a team, they get access to all resources assigned to that team.
Create users and teams
You might set up multiple Grafana Cloud Organizations if you’d like to separate billing, account management, and administration of all of the Grafana Cloud products you purchase from Grafana Labs. However, almost all Grafana Cloud users have just one Grafana Cloud Organization. You can use the API or provisioning to synchronize some data between Instances (like data sources). In this case, we would suggest organizing and managing access to Grafana’s core resources like dashboards and alerts by using Folders and Teams. You can grant permissions to teams which apply to all members of that team. (I’ll use “team” to refer to an actual group of people, and “Team” with a capital T to refer to the Grafana concept of Team, which groups users).
RBAC provides you a way of granting, changing, and revoking user read and write access to Grafana resources, such as users, reports, and authentication. When you want to extend a viewer’s ability to edit and save dashboard changes or limit an editor’s permission to modify a dashboard, you can assign permissions to dashboards and folders. For example, you might want a certain viewer to be able to edit a dashboard. While that user can see all dashboards, you can grant them access to update only one of them. Grafana Cloud OrganizationsA Grafana Cloud Organization is different from a Grafana Org. A Grafana Cloud Organization usually represents a whole company, and it can contain multiple stacks as well as centralized user management and billing.
User roles and permissions
At a Grafana Enterprise customer, each team of SREs is assigned a Team in Grafana, which correlates with their services, represented as Kubernetes namespaces. In Grafana, all users are granted an organization role that determines what
resources they can access. This tutorial is for admins or anyone that wants to learn how to manage
users in Grafana. You’ll add multiple local users, organize them into teams,
and make sure they’re only able to access the resources they need.
- Follow the Microsoft prompt and allow Grafana IRM to access your Microsoft Teams account.
- Some resources, like data sources, have their own permissions that can be granted to Teams, but others do not.
- Grafana Cloud creates a new Grafana Instance (along with Grafana Cloud Metrics, Grafana Cloud Logs, and Grafana Cloud Traces tenants) for each stack.
- You’ve created a new user and given them unique permissions to view a single dashboard within a folder.
- You can enable the cache globally in Grafana’s configuration, and configure a cache duration (also called Time to Live, or TTL) for each data source individually.
- We started by defining the problem and our goals before diving deep into our solution options.
It’s a good practice to use folders to organize collections of related dashboards. You can assign permissions at the folder level to individual users or teams. This action permanently deletes the team and removes all team permissions from dashboards and folders. Refer to Role-based access Control in Grafana Enterprise to understand how to use RBAC permissions to restrict access to dashboards, folders, administrative functions, and other resources.
User example
Refer to the following examples to understand how organization and dashboard permissions impact a user’s access to dashboards. For example, if a user with the viewer organization role requires editor (or admin) access to a dashboard, you can assign those elevated permissions on an individual basis. You can further filter the plugin catalog’s results for data sources provided by the Grafana community, Grafana Labs, and partners. If you use Grafana Enterprise, you can also filter by Enterprise-supported plugins. To disable query caching for an entire Grafana instance, set the enabled flag to false in the caching section of Configure Grafana Enterprise.
Other resources, like dashboards, data sources, annotations, folders, Teams, and Alerts, are isolated within each organization and cannot be easily shared with another organization. ⚠️ In the main Grafana teams section, users can set team-specific user permissions, such as Admin, Editor, or Viewer,
but only for resources within that team. Currently, Grafana OnCall ignores this setting and uses global roles instead.
Using the query parameter
Thanks to a strong data-driven mindset, by the end of the third quarter, four out of five products had reached the goal of 70%. The right side contains compliance metrics and verifications, such as a product maturity score and customer satisfaction metrics. The key pieces of information that get stored in their database are later queried in two ways. Time series data is delivered into Grafana Enterprise Metrics through an API, while other non-time series data is delivered straight into Grafana. We’ve become more collaborative in our work, and long-term roadmap conversations are much more engaging. Our goals to be more involved in the community seem much more realistic, and we’re already planning for the next big opportunities to grow the team and invest in more key features.
Only Marketing team members can edit the contents of the Analytics folder, only Engineering team members can edit the contents of the Application folder. Graphona, a fictional telemarketing company, has asked you to configure Grafana
for their teams. While in college, Raj founded Voxel, a cloud and hosting company acquired by Internap in 2012. His two great passions are observability and aviation; he got his private pilot’s license almost 20 years ago and has completed his motorglider rating. The following example shows a list as it appears to an organization administrator. Complete this task when you want to add or modify team member permissions.
Manage organizations
You will no longer see the Cache tab on any data sources, and no data source queries will be cached. When you enable query and resource caching, Grafana temporarily stores the results of data source queries and resource requests. When you or another user submit the same query or resource request again, the results will come back from the cache instead of from the data source. Because teams exist inside an organization, the organization administrator can manage all teams. When the editors_can_admin setting is enabled, editors can create teams and manage teams that they create.
You must be an Org admin or Grafana admin to enable query caching for a data source. For more information on Grafana roles and permissions, refer to grafana team About users and permissions. You can configure data source permissions to allow or deny certain users the ability to query or edit a data source.

Other than that, I go to a monthly management meetup where I facilitate workshops sometimes and recently organized a conference. I love to cook, I’m a huge movie nerd, and I’m a vintage fashionista and fashion-blogger on Instagram. Oh, and I have a daughter, and as a family, we play a lot of board games and (obviously) do music together. At the start of the year, five products being monitored with Product Team Observability had a product maturity score of about 15%.
